The long-awaited official Record Store Day list was finally released a few weeks ago, and I am so (SO!) excited about it. I have yet to experience an in-person Record Store Day shopping spree, but I think this might finally be the year I make the trip to some of my favorite local record stores. None of the releases for RSD are sold online, meaning you have to go out and support a store near you, which is one of the main things that I love about it. The list has over 400 titles that will be available in a number of formats, mostly including traditional LP and 7” vinyl. There are TONS of incredible releases on this list, and whether it is a newly remastered edition of a favorite classic album or a soundtrack to a movie that you’ve always loved, there is something for everyone. Below is a quick rundown of the event, and some of the releases that I’m most excited about. Be sure to get out and shop local this Record Store Day on April 20th, 2024!

I’ll be the first to admit that I have never really been a podcast girlie. There are few people that I want to have talk aimlessly in my ear for 45-minutes-to-an-hour, and I typically don’t have a long enough attention span to follow a long conversation, much less one that I can’t actively participate in. However, a new era of podcasts has been born in the last few years, and I have to say, it’s got an iron-chokehold on me. Influencers like Brittany Broski, Enya Umanzor, Emma Chamberlain, and more have all created podcasts I like to categorize as “hot girl podcasts.” First and foremost, being a ‘hot girl’ is 100% a mindset– all it takes is a good sense of humor, a carefree attitude, and a self-love mindset. You either get it, or you don’t. Below are some of my favorite ‘hot girl’ podcasts and episodes. If a music girlie like me can become a podcast convert, I think you can too. Check these out and see if you have a new favorite podcast!

Let's face it: No one likes waking up in the morning, and most people deeply resent the sound of their alarm clocks. However, there is a better way. Since middle school, my morning alarm has been ‘Heart Out’ by The 1975. While that song has now been forever ruined for me, it has been generally easier to wake up to a song I enjoy, rather than the painful stock sounds your phone supplies you with. Below is a tried and true list of songs I recommend changing your alarm to, because it definitely beats the iPhone stock sound.

2023 is officially the year of Boygenius. Their newest release, a short and sweet EP running just barely over 12 minutes, came out this past October, fittingly on Friday the 13th. This EP is a companion to their first full-length album, The Record, which dropped earlier this year on March 31st. The Rest continues the themes of intimate friendships and queer love that are explored in The Record, as well as expanding upon the relatable topics of depression and the pressures of being a 20-something-year-old.

Mitski’s seventh studio album The Land is Inhospitable and So are We was released September 15, 2023, and it is beautiful and heart-wrenching in only the way a Mitski album can be. Coming in at just over half an hour long, this album explores themes of love, loss, over-indulgence, and the raw reality of change. Mitski is no stranger to writing lyrics dealing with painful yet relatable emotions; however, each time she releases a new song it feels entirely innovative and fresh, reaching emotions I didn’t even know I could feel.
