The 40th anniversary of WIUX’s Culture Shock music festival welcomed a sunny, warm day full of vintage vendors, free food, and community support for college radio and independent media. The theme? Indietronica – a blend of indie pop and electronic beats.Closing out the night was Hatchie, an Australian dreampop artist and headliner for this year’s festival. 32-year-old Harriette Pillbeam has released three albums and one EP as Hatchie since 2018, fusing sounds from Lush, Cocteau Twins, Kate Bush, and Chairlift into her signature bright-eyed, heartfelt, and danceable indie rock.
