In what starts out sounding like a footwork track, "lonelyfuckingsamurai" goes absolutely berzerk at :50, where Mr. Carmack stamps the track with his signature industrious bass sound and exotic vocal samples. Mr. Carmack's latest release, Drugs EP, further supports why he's the best new artist of 2014.
Once again, a DJ/producer takes a lazy beat from a DJ Mustard produced track and turns it into a massive remix. While the initial remix of this T.I. track came out a week ago, it was taken to another level when ATL club rap gods, Migos, jumped on it.
Another Chaz Bundick album, another change in style. The Toro Y Moi frontman will be releasing his upcoming album "Michael" on November 4 under the moniker of "Les Sins". This impossibly smooth track as "Les Sins" proves that whether he's making chillwave, nu disco, or psychedelia, Bundick is one of indie music's most dependable craftsmen.
This is what wearing spandex in a spaceship sounds like.
With his upcoming album Money Sucks, Friends Rule slated for an October 28 release on Mad Decent, the Moombahton pioneer gave away this re-vamped version of his first hit, "Masta Blasta" for free. With heavier drums and a new 4/4 rhythm, the track is another reason to believe that with the release of MSFR Francis will become a household name.
Hudson Mohawke's EP, Chimes, dropped this week as expected, but when looking at the tracklist there was one glaring (and disappointing) fact: IT WAS ONLY FOUR SONGS! Of the four tracks, one was the Apple commercial featured "Chimes" and one was a Gammer Re-Edit of "Chimes". Despite there being only two unreleased HudMo originals, fans of the former TNGHT member can revel in the beauty of "King Kong Beaver".
Through isolating the airy vocals and throwing them into a melodic drop, Fear Club offered up a wonderful re-work of the Glass Animals track "Cocoa Hooves".
THROWBACK OF THE WEEK
Bro Safari and OWSLA signee Valentino Kahn teamed up to remix MIA, what they delivered was the track that dominated the festival scene this past summer.

Despite his appearance in (the worst song of 2013) "Blurred Lines", despite coming off as borderline cheesy with "Happy", Pharrell Williams just dropped us all a reminder that he's still every bit the innovative, creative genius that he always has been. The video for "It Girl", the final track off of his most recent album G I R L, holds in the long tradition of imaginative videos from Pharrell.
Williams commissioned Japanese artists Mr. and Fantasista Utamaro to direct the video, which is equal parts: anime, gameboy color and acid trip. While Pharrell appears in many different forms in the video, his music perfectly matches the light spirit of the video throughout.
Check out some of Pharrell's best videos from throughout his career below.

This weeks' singles worth listening to span from the lead track on the new Keys N Krates EP, to an incredibly bright flip of Jack U's "Take U There", to the debut track from Totalitarian Hovercraft.
Throwback of the week goes to the late DJ Rashad and his collaboration with Heavee D, "Its Wack". The footwork pioneer crafted up another masterpiece with this one and added to the long list of gems featured on various Grand Theft Auto soundtracks.

From a long teased Mad Decent joint to some A-list rappers dropping new gems, here are THE singles worth checking out this week!

Last night BBC radio personality (and demigod) Zane Lowe premiered the studio version of "Take U There", the first single from Skrillex and Diplo's side project, Jack U. Though fans have been hearing plenty of rough cuts from their sets at Hard Fest, Burning Man and a few editions of the Mad Decent Block Party, this is the first studio version of a Jack U track to be released. It did not disappoint. The piercing vocal guest spot from Kiesza combined with the gargantuan future trap drop has created even more excitement for the super-duo's upcoming EP release.

Hundred Waters is the Gainville, Florida based dream pop outfit whose 2014 album, Moon Rang Like a Bell, is considered by many to be one of the best releases of the year so far. They took time after their performance at Pitchfork Music Festival to talk about their new album, not listening to Bjork records anymore and what to expect from them in the future.

The 2014 version of Pitchfork Music Festival takes place this weekend and it boasts more crowd drawing headliners than ever, as well as a widely diverse lineup that has something that will catch the ear of all who make the journey to Chicago’s Union Park. We are all familiar with headliners such as indie rock mainstay Beck and the current face of West Coast hip-hop Kendrick Lamar. So, here are a few acts deeper in the billing whose sets should not be missed.
Hudson Mohawke
All HudMo does is pump out tracks that are absolutely MASSIVE. Whether it was “Thunder Bay” off of 2011’s Satin Panthers, “Higher Ground” off of the self-titled EP of his and Lunice’s side project, TNGHT, or co-production on Yeezus’s climax “Blood on the Leaves” it makes sense why HudMo is G.O.O.D. Music’s latest signee. He also boasts heavy production credit’s on Pusha T’s My Name is My Name and is heavily involved in the making of Kanye West’s next LP.

Isaiah Rashad
Pitchfork’s rap lineup this year is flat out dominated by TDE (Top Dawg Entertainment) this year with it’s newcomer Isaiah Rashad being joined on the lineup by Kendrick, SZA, and Schoolboy Q, but then again hasn’t rap been dominated by TDE this year?
Rashad both embodies why TDE has been successful, original material in a hip-hop culture that is saturated with copy-cat material. Rashad’s debut album, Cilvia Demo, is one of 2014’s best hip-hop records to date and is filled with the Southern MC tearing up a wide-ranging slate of beats.
Twin Peaks
The most overlooked group of the entire lineup, this indie-dream rock collective’s first full length LP, Sunken, evokes the feeling of a hazy version of Surfer Blood’s Astro Coast. While only eight tracks long, Sunken, is a memorable debut from the band which will release its’ second studio album, Wild Onion, on August 5th.
DJ Spinn
When the lineup originally came out, Spinn was slated to do a set with fellow footwork music pioneer, DJ Rashad. Sadly, Rashad passed away on April 26 leaving Spinn without his brother and collaborator . This set is expected to be a tribute to DJ Rashad and should be heavy with emotion in the hometown of both the DJ’s and the music that they have helped lay groundwork for. It will also be a clinic in DJ’ing and a show with tons of energy, certainly worth checking out for those who have never seen a footwork show.

For the 15th Memorial Day weekend in a row, Hart Plaza will be home to some of the world’s hottest electronic music acts from May 24-May 26 as Movement Electronic Music Festival returns to Detroit once again. If you’re unfamiliar with the festival, let its accolades speak for itself.

The festival has gained such a reputation by bringing in a wide variety of pioneering electronic artists every year, as well as some established names in hip-hop. Past performers include: Deadmau5, Pete Rock, The Cool Kids, Girl Talk, Flying Lotus, Afrika Bambaataa, A-Trak, Fatboy Slim, Skrillex, araabMUZIK, Gesaffelstein, and Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs. This blend of genres is a perfect homage to Detroit, which birthed the genre of techno and has played a significant role in shaping modern hip-hop.
This blend of genres will be on full display as the 2014 edition of Movement Electronic Music Festival boasts its strongest and most diverse lineup to date. Here’s a few gems out of the lineups many great acts.
The Hip-Hop Legend
Just Blaze. What has the man not done? He produced two number one singles in a less than a year, Maroon 5’s “Make Me Wonder” and T.I.’s “Live Your Life.” He crafted soulful hip-hop classic’s such as Jay Z’s “Girls, Girls, Girls” and “Song Cry,” Kanye West’s “Touch the Sky,” Cam’Ron’s “Oh Boy,” and Jay Electronica’s “Exhibit C.” Upon hearing the “Song Cry” beat Jay Z told Just Blaze, “Right now you’re the best producer around. Nobody can take that from you.” Most recently, Just Blaze put a modern spin on his production when he pumped out the 2013 club smash hit “Higher” with co-collaborator Baauer.

The New Comer
If you ask 100 people you know who DJ Snake is and 10 of them might correctly identify him as the French trap artist who burst on to the scene with a smash hit in 2013. Play the aforementioned smash hit and all 100 of them are sure to have yelled out it’s chorus, “Turn Down for What!?” a time or two. Besides this track which currently at number six in the Billboard Hot 100, DJ Snake has pumped out remixes of Kanye West, Major Lazer and Zedd, and collaborated with other young names such as Yellow Claw and Mad Decent signee Dillon Francis. Check out his signature industrial trap sound below.

The Viral Sensation
Has one artist’s life changed more overnight than Baauer’s? After not seeing either of his 2011 releases chart, the YouTube sensation of making “Harlem Shake” videos shot the song up to number one on charts across the world. After “Harlem Shake” went platinum Baauer has produced club hits “Dum Dum” and was featured on the Remix version of Disclosure’s Settle. His menacing and almost cartoonish drops have made Baauer a mainstay in trap music.

Troll Lord
RiFF RaFF aka Jody Highroller aka Rap game Jeff Spicoli is the best example out there of the Childish Gambino album title, Because the Internet. RiFF is a testament to what a cleverly marketed, just-ridiculous-enough artist can do in the internet age: gain a cult icon status. From his cornrows, to his zigzag facial hair, to his penchant for neon clothing, and a social media presence that is equally as hilarious as it is absurd. RiFF understands his place in the rap game and plays his role as well and cleverly as anyone in music. His dirty south hip hop and flair for the ridiculous will have you asking “Is he being serious?,” while grinning because you will never knowing the answer.

Other Can’t-Miss Artists
Flosstradamus
Buck, v: to get wild and uncontrollably crazy.
Flosstradamus might be responsible for most instances of making entire parties go “buck” with their music. The Chicago based trap duo’s massive sound is unmistakable and they’re the creator’s of trap’s most recognizable song,
http://youtu.be/chIKbIXdTgM
Ryan Hemsworth
The Canadian based producer has remixed everyone from Kanye West, to Disclosure, to Lorde. Every one of his remixes is accented by his trademark atmospheric vocal layering and fast paced hi-hats, making all of these artist’s work exist inside his musical universe.

Anthony “Shake” Shakir
A veteran of Detroit techno who has been in the game over 30 years. If you want to better understand Detroit’s electronic roots, this pioneer’s set is one to see.

Several artists have recently put out singles, promoting albums that are to be released in the spring and early summer. These are the singles worth taking a second listen.
Crown the Pines-S. Carey
The lush instrumental texture that opens up S. Carey’s latest single will sound reminiscent of the band S. Carey has lent his drumming talents to for years now, Bon Iver. However, this track along with others that have been recently released under locally based label Jagjaguwar, prove that S. Carey is poised for a breakout 2014. “Crown the Pines” uses Carey’s layered vocals to build up an emotional concentration that suddenly crashes down into a beautiful chorus. Using his intense yet intimate sound, Range of Light, Carey’s sophomore album which is slated for an April 1 release, is one that is sure to score big with fans of artists such as Sufjan Stevens, Fleet Foxes and the aforementioned Bon Iver.
)
Brother-Mac DeMarco
In his latest single off Salad Days, “Brother”, Culture Shock Headliner Mac DeMarco, combines the strengths of his first two albums to produce this wonderful track. Dual guitars kick off the song in a dreamscape sounding like something straight off of Rock and Roll Night Club, but his vocals tell the story in a more polished way making it sound exactly like a cut off of 2012’s 2. DeMarco feels conversant in his tone when singing, “This much is true, but it’s still up to you to take my advice. So, take it slowly brother/ Let it go now, brother.” This deeply smooth song engulfs you as a listener and DeMarco’s advice becomes a sort of easing lullaby to the audiences stresses.
DeMarco’s junior album, Salad Days, is also due out April 1st via Captured Tracks.

Taking a cue from Arcade Fire’s somewhat unprecedented marketing campaign for Reflektor, Real Estate has also promoted their new album, Atlas, in a similarly distinct way.
Whether it was releasing the second single off the album, “Crime,” as a guitar tutorial video or taking out barely noticeable classified ads in a slew of New York newspapers, including Sunday’s New York Times and the New York Daily News, the five piece from New Jersey unveiled their third studio effort in an innovative way. Though, “effort” doesn’t quite fit, the album excels at showing the band’s effortless yet profound take on surf rock.
The shimmering guitars that open up the lead track “Had to Hear,” sound familiar to the band’s previous releases, but the tone evolves to more serious issues than their whimsical tone would lead on; a theme that continues to be played out through the rest of the tracks. The lyrical carefreeness found on 2011’s Days is swapped for a more grown up, reflective look at what events are unfolding in life.
Front man Martin Courtney has no problem conveying this newly found tone using only a handful of words in a verse at times. This word-sparse, economic writing style gives listeners the ability to absorb his clear delivery. The album's most triumphant moments are found when this delivery is paired up with Courtney’s love sick pleas on a number of tracks.
Whether he sings, “I had to hear you, just to feel near you” while recounting long-distance relationship woes on “Had to Hear” or details anxiety filled restless nights on “Crime,” these moments feel authentic and accessible in a way few bands can successfully convey. It all leads up to the chorus in “Crime,” as Courtney croons, “I don’t want to die, lonely and uptight. Stay with me / All will be revealed," powerfully coming through as the climax of the album.
As the album goes on, the instrumental, “April’s Song” (which feels like a cut straight off of Real Estate’s self titled 2009 release) provides time to reflect on the lyrical content of the first three songs over a beautiful rise-and-fall guitar lead. While most songs stylistically follow suit in finding their backbone in one of guitarist Matt Mondanile’s crisp riffs, “The Bend” is the most percussive song on the release with a smooth high hat and snare pattern that provides an extra kick behind the acoustic guitar. “How Might I Live” is the only track that doesn’t quite feel like it fits in, mainly due to it’s slow pace and the fact that Courtney isn’t the one providing vocals on the track.
Despite the changes between songs, the album ties together as a cohesive piece with a common theme and not just a collection of songs.
“I stare at the hands on the clock/I'm still waiting for them to stop/The earliest light is just shinning in/And I've no idea where the days been”
These, the closing words of Atlas, take all 10 tracks and summarizes them into the idea the album presents. The idea that that time goes by quickly and change is a constant throughout life, but despite all of the anguish, there is still a shining light of positivity throughout. Real Estate asks the listener to join them for this journey and to do so through a beautifully textured album.
