Beck won a Grammy for his 2014 album, Morning Phase, and although it was a pleasant surprise to his fans, many younger music listeners were quite confused about the identity of the old man who just won the award that many thought that Beyonce rightfully deserved.

Aaaaaand we're back. I'm feeling pretty good after watching that awesome #iubb win over Mich. Talk about #themichigandifference amirite. The Grammy's are also on tonight and a bunch of pretty average singers will probably win awards. Unless Haim and Taylor Swift win. They are not average, they're super humans.
Those middle parts though. I mean their cover of "Wrecking Ball" is not very good, but it's something different and they're just so cool. I low key want them to adopt me if that was legally possible/socially acceptable.
You wouldn't think that a song like "Mind Over Matter" would sound good minus the drums and the guitars plus electronic blips and blops and but sometimes people are wrong. This remix is really really really good.
"Don't smile at me, I'm trying to be dark and brooding" yes this song speaks to me on many levels. The lyrics in this song are pretty weird but it's sung so normally and overall sounds like an average song that you don't really notice until the third time that this guy is so happy and in love that he's singing to the house plants. I want what he's drinking.
Slowly falling in love with Jagwar Ma and I'm not mad about it. They put such a unique spin on classic 60's rock, the sweeping melodies are Beatles-esque to a tee but there's also something post-LSD trip Beach Boys going on too. I want to sit on a porch and drink a tall glass of lemonade while listening to this song on repeat.
I somehow missed that the Wombat's dropped a new single in January, and if you missed that too here's your chance to listen to it! Overall, it sounds like their old music but a wee bit more poppy. Forever a sucker for a British singers, the Wombats have held in special place in my heart for a while. Their new album, Glitterbug comes out April 6 and I'm very much looking forward for another excuse to listen to beautiful British accents on repeat.
Mondays are tough. Let Ben Gibbard and his guitar make you feel better.

With the superb ending of the superb owl, (I love a good fight) football season is officially over for a few months. How is this related to anything? Who knows! Lets just listen to my #hottakes for the week.
"IDFWU" was one of my favorite tracks from the second half of last year and although Big Sean's latest release isn't quite as provocative, "Blessings," which comes off of his upcoming album Dark Sky Paradise, coming out on Feb. 24. The track features verses from Drake and Kanye, creating some kind of 2015 rap trifecta. Drake's verse is pretty good, but Kanye's falls flat. Will be be abdicating his throne this spring? There's only one way to find out.
Milky Chance is low key taking over the indie circuit, headlining their first U.S. tour this spring and "Stolen Chance and "Flashed Junk Mind" have both made their way from the periphery airwaves to Top 40 stations. This excellent remix was done by a 17-year-old Austrian producer and it does a really great job of not overpowering the German duos vocals and just adding another synthy layer to the already super catchy song.
Flo is coming back with new music soon and she's headlining Coachella and hopefully will show up in the lineups for other great festivals this summer (lolla plz lollz plz lolla plz). Anyway, this cover of Robert Palmer's 80's song is featured on the b-sides of Lungs and it will remind you why we all fell in love with Florence in the first place, and get you super excited for some new music.
Bob Dylan went electric, The Beach Boys took some LSD and Rihanna discovered an acoustic guitar. The status quo is constantly changing and this track, with credit given to Rihanna, Kanye and Sir Paul McCartney, takes Rihanna's R&B/rap/pop/dance-influenced music and literally spins it in a Cusinart for 30 seconds and then flips it all upside down. Kanye's verse is a giant dud, there's a reason why he relies on autotune, but that's not the point. Music is constantly evolving, there's no reason why Rihanna, arguably one of the biggest stars of the day, can't put out music that is different. She has a solid fan base that will eat up whatever she puts out and she has the name recognition that few, besides McCartney and Kanye, can boast. Lyrically, the song can be put to a dance beat and sound like a radio hit, but by singing against a single acoustic guitar and an occasional simple beat, "Fourfiveseconds" bend the lines of what a rap song can sound like.

For music lovers, especially cheap music lovers, Spotify is a wonderful invention. No longer are we dependent on sketchy filesharing sites like Limewire (lol tbt) and we have the world's music catalog at our fingerprints. That is, unless you want to listen to Taylor Swift or the Black Keys' Turn Blue, but for the most part, my previous sentence is accurate. I've been using Spotify for nearly five years now and for the most part, the music streaming service has really stayed the same. Except for when they introduced Spotify-curated playlists. Talk about literally having any playlist for any mood. Here's my list of the top 8 weirdest Spotify playlists. They range from the oddly specific to the "JUST WHYYY" enjoy!
8. Walk In Like You Own The Place
With tracks from Kanye, The Strokes and everyone in between, this 29 song playlist was made for the nervous, shaky and prone to stage fright that need some music for the added confidence boost. The description uses "swag" and I have already deemed that word unacceptable to use as a noun (totally fine as an adjective though).
7. Post Yoga Glow
You know after you do yoga and you just feel so clean because you've just released so many toxins you just want to head over to your local juicery for some fresh-pressed kale, beet and acai juice and tune into this playlist? No you don't? Yeah neither do I and probably 99.9% of the human population. Regardless, Spotify still created this playlist with some peaceful and spiritual tunes to make sure you never come up from your downward dog.
6. I Hate Men
Oh boy, this 241-song playlist really means it. With everything from grrl punk to rap to Beyonce to Lily Allen, this playlist really encompasses every possible reason why all men suck. We all know you wanted this, at least you didn't have to make it yourself!
5. Skipping School
Isn't the point of skipping school to do whatever you want, not to listen to some lame playlist that someone else made? If we're being honest, this playlist is pretty good, featuring songs from Foster the People, Grizzly Bear and the Black Keys I would probably choose to listen to these songs if I were to skip school. But the point is that someone at Spotify woke up and was like hey if I were a 15-year-old truant I would totally dig these tunes while hanging out at 7/11 instead of geometry!
4. Brainstorm of the Century
This playlist is meant to get your brain going, but these seemingly random instrumental tracks are kind of bothering me as I'm writing this sentence. If I was really in need of the brainstorm of the century then I would listen to Modern Vampires of the City and The Suburbs on repeat cause everyone knows that's actually the best thinking music.
3. Forever Alone
I want a list of all the people that don't ironically listen to this playlist and I want to send them a letter saying that it's ok, it's not that bad. They don't need to listen to a Spotify playlist that's description includes #foreveralone. But then again, where else could you find a playlist with the Backstreet Boys, David Bowie, Taylor Swift, Kid Rock and the Stones? I really hope nowhere else.
2. Beer and Wings
Equal part stupid and unnecessary.
1. The Happy Hipster
"Some say there's no such thing as a happy hipster..." What? Who says that? Who is some? Despite the ridiculous description, the playlist is pretty good, your standard indie music with staples like MGMT and TV on the Radio, but also featuring some new bands like Sylvan Esso and Hozier.

Music for your Monday is back and better than ever! Maybe. Maybe not. We will see how it goes. So here we are in 2015 with a ton of great music to look forward to from some of my favorite bands and artists from Kanye to Death Cab to Modest Mouse and even Beck is apparently coming out with an album before summer. Wow!!!!!!! Ok time for some music to get us through the third week of the semester. Only four more weeks until midterms :/
Do you have a crush on someone? Great! Now listen to this song and become even more confused about your feelings! If you don't have a crush on someone, you can still enjoy this super cute and catchy song. The lyrics are pretty cheesy and simple but the super chill melody and beat make it sound like a spring breeze. That more poetic then I had intended.
This is "Black Sun." It's a new song from Death Cab for Cutie. Have you heard they're coming out with a new album on March 31? Sometimes when I get really excited about something I speak in monotone because I literally cannot express how happy and excited I am. This is one of those times.
If you haven't heard this song yet then stop right here and listen to it three times. "Kansas City" is the leading track off of the Basement Tapes, which is basically some really amazing and incredible artists recreating music that Bob Dylan wrote one summer in the basement of a house by Woodstock. The entire album is absolutely beautiful and if you have the chance, you have to watch the documentary that chronicles how the album was made and recorded. It's as close as you can get to being in the head of a musical genius. Unless you are a music genius.
The new Decemberists album is pretty meh, but I've been really into this song since it was released a week ago, before the rest of the record came out. It's a very layered track and vocally it's as good as the Decemberists get.
Modest Mouse has been playing this song live for a while and I suspect that their album will feature a lot of concert staples that have just never been formally released. But that's not necessarily a bad thing. Isaac Brock just has such a unique voice that you either love or hate (how you can hate it I don't know) but "Coyotes" is a lot more calm than most of the band's discography. Not that I'll assume that this track represents the rest Strangers to Ourselves, especially since "Lampshades on Fire" is just a crazy good classic Modest Mouse-sounding song.
Not trying to bring everyone down, but Daughter is just so good. Sounding like a more vocal-driven version of the XX, this track is melancholy but sometimes that's just what you need.
This song has been on Music for Your Monday before but I don't really care. Listen to it. Listen to it again. I don't know why it's so good. Probably because it's hard for me to get past how awesome it is when I'm listening to it.
Come back next Monday for more great music! I promise no repeats.

Death Cab For Cutie is set to release their latest album, Kintsugi, on March 31. It's the band's first album since 2011's Codes and Keys and their last with longtime producer/guitarist, Chris Walla.
In an interview with Rolling Stone, bassist Nick Harmer explains the album title, saying that Kintsugi is a traditional Japanese art form where fractured pieces of ceramic are pieced back together and held with real gold. The band agreed that Kintsugi represented how they felt both as a band and personally.
Lead singer Ben Gibbard had previously described the new album as music that will win back longtime Death Cab fans that didn't like Codes and Keys. Speaking about Kintsugi ,Gibbard explained the band's "goal [is] to make records that rank amongst the best work we've ever done. I completely respect and understand why people love Transatlanticism, We Have the Facts.. or Narrow Stairs."
Many consider those three albums to be the brightest spots on Death Cab's extensive discography, and we can only hope that Kintsugi will also be considered a bright spot come March 31.
Tracklist:
1. "No Room In Frame"
2. "Black Sun"
3. "The Ghosts of Beverly Drive"
4. "Little Wanderer"
5. "You've Haunted Me My Whole Life"
6. "Hold No Guns"
7. "Everything's A Ceiling"
8. "Good Help (Is So Hard To Find)"
9. "El Dorado"

2015 has already one-upped 2014 because of "Only One," the first single released from Kanye West's still untitled seventh studio album.
The track, which is from the perspective of Kanye's late mother, Dr. Donda West, is a collaboration with Sir Paul McCartney, who was rumored to be working with Kanye on a few songs featured on the record.
Though the pairing at first seems bizarre, "Only One" proves that the collaboration was a huge success. Both artists are extremely talented lyricists and understand the importance of the artistic process. In the press release that announced the release, McCartney recalled how Kanye believed that the lyrics that inspired the song, "Hello my only one..." came from his late mother. Kanye's daughter, North, was sitting on his lap during his moment of inspiration and he said that "my mother was singing to me, and through me to my daughter."
The music and the lyrics suggest an emotional and human side of Kanye that we haven't heard from in the past few years. His last release, Yeezus, was aggressive and abrasive and heavy on the bass and the lyrics ranged from race-fueled anger ("New Slaves") to misogynistic (I'm In It") to embracing the egotistical image he's created ("I Am A God"). That being said, it was an instant classic and still one of my most frequently played albums. Even on My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, Kanye rarely touches on his sensitive side, even though many regard that album (another one of my favorites) as his apology album.
If anything, it sounds most similar to 808s, minus the bass. Kanye's latest album has been rumored to sound nearly opposite to Yeezus, although thematically somewhat similar. "Only One" certainly proves these rumors to be true.
Stream "Only One" on Kanye's website, and get ready cause Yeezy season's approachin.

WIUX is hosting a benefit concert for Camp Kesem, a camp led by college students for young cancer patients. Peter Oren, Sunspots and Stellardaze are all set to perform. The concert is Friday (12/12) at Rachael's Cafe on Third Street. Entry is $3 or you can bring an item listed on the camp's wish list.
Heidi Brueckmann shares why Camp Kesem is so important-
Why I Kesem
Kesem (n.): magic; the ability to change a life; an agent of growth; the unique
power that transforms kids into Camp Kesem Campers
More than 3 million children live with a parent with cancer
Many more children have lost a parent to cancer. Camp Kesem is a non-profit student run organization that provides a year long support system and a free week long camp for children whose parents have or have had cancer. Here is why one counselor Heidi Brueckmann Kesems:
In my life I have seen cancer tear apart and affect too many people that I love. I have dealt with a sick parent and the fear of losing someone I love so much. I Kesem to alleviate some of this pain that our campers face in their lives. Simply put, my campers are my heroes. Being a part of CKIU has given me the amazing gift of being in the lives of these fantastic kids. I Kesem for the kids with unimaginable strength in the face of a terrifying disease. I Kesem for their parents who deserve peace of mind that their kids can just be carefree kids. I Kesem for my family. I Kesem for the magic. No one should face cancer alone and at CKIU no one has to. CKIU is a family and we work all year to give our kids the best year-long support system and week of camp that we can. We fill their lives with silly songs, tiedye, s'mores, friendship bracelets, cabin chats and a whole lot of CK love.

Happy dead week!! It's the spookiest time of year besides dead week in the spring semester and Halloween. Same same but different. Anyway, this week's Music For Your Monday is dedicated to some of my favorite study tunes. If you like what you hear, check out this playlist I made last semester for finals. And maybe I'll make an updated version later this week if I've run out of other ways to procrastinate.
Dallas Green of City and Colour (get it???) has one of the most soothing voices and sometimes that's just what you need after reading the same sentence for the umpteenth time and still failing to make any sense of it.
Jake Bugg's solo acoustic set at the Bluebird on Thursday was unreal and this song has since been on repeat. It's also a great study song.
At least it's not on Spotify so you don't have to to remember to turn private session on so no one knows that you listened to this on repeat for three hours while writing your final paper.
This must be the place, the place is the library. But at least you're listening to a great song.
There is a lot of noise in this song. If you're one of those people that listens to classical music or soft, acoustic music or even silence while studying, I do not recommend this track. But if you're like me and need that extra jolt sometimes (coffee can only do so much) when you're on the seventh page of a ten-page paper and stuck, then yeah this song is for you.
This song is nearly ten minutes long so you'll be able to concentrate without wanting to change the song for that amount of time. And it's so good that you'll want to listen to it at least five times in a row. That's nearly an hour of uninterrupted music. #solutions
There's just sometime very soothing and hypnotic about this song. It makes me think of the smiling sunglasses emoji.
Happy studying!!!!

Congrats if you're reading this then you survived Thanksgiving and spending a week home. Here's some very good music I've discovered on my week off as a reward for all of us.
The Neighbourhood finally released the full mixtape that they teased us with this past summer. Featuring rappers like Casey Veggies, Danny Brown and in this track, French Montana, the electro-indie band seamlessly adds elements of hip-hop to create some really unique tracks. Although "Jealousy," which was released this summer, is still my favorite song so far on the mixtape, I'm really feeling "#icanteven" too.
Do you ever hear a song and you're like well damn, why didn't I discover this song earlier when it totally was relevant to my life? I feel like at least 75% can relate to this. Anyway, it's too bad I didn't discover this song like 2 years ago. That would have been very nice. It's still nice now too, but more so if you have a very broken heart, which I luckily don't have anymore. But if you do, this one's for you.
I've been listening to this mashup for nearly a week now and still ever time I'm thinking what the hell is this and enjoying it so much at the same time. By mixing Tame Impala's mellow riffs with Kanye's aggressive bass lines, "Black Skinhead" takes on a completely different feel. And as weird as it sounds-it really does sound weird both in theory and in your headphones-it's pretty awesome.
Cold weather is perfect Grizzly Bear listening weather. And this is one of my favorite songs from Ed Droste and the rest of band.
I wish the quality was better, but Marc Roberge just has such a great voice and he does just a great job with this cover. I hate that O.A.R's last album, The Rockville LP, relied so little on Roberge's vocals because they're so strong and just amazing at the three minute mark. I love this a lot.
I think I heard this song like three years ago and then promptly forgot about it (why) but I'm so happy I found it again. Released as a bonus track on My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, and featuring great verses by big names like Beyonce and Big Sean, this track is one of the more underrated ones in Kanye's discography.
Indie Shuffle is one of my favorite websites to find music on Soundcloud and that's where I found this groovy remix of the classic Beatles song. It's produced flawlessly and allows you to imagine what the Beatles would sound like if they took a disco route in the 70s.

"Run"
This episode featured empowered-female characters. Yes, you read that correctly.
First, our favorite damsel in distress, Maggie Jordan grows a spine with none other but our favorite punching bag Toby Flenderson from Scranton, PA.
Except in this show, Toby is an EPA director, albeit still a nervous, blundering wreck, who talks a little bit too loudly on the train from Boston to New York. Maggie is also on this train, coming back to the city after her coverage of the Boston bombings. Being the journalist that she is, Maggie records the phone call, Toby finds out and after some great Sorkin dialogue with the wit and moral checks and adversity, Maggie decides morally to drop the story that she overheard and Toby gives her an unpublished EPA document about how carbon emissions are exceeding estimates and basically, we're doomed. As all of this is happening, a Fordham law professor falls in love in Maggie and asks for her number. Armed with a great scoop and a potential new (and super cute) love interest, Maggie seems to be back on track.
Sloan and Don's weird relationship is also fun to watch in this episode, mostly because of the impressive scene of a beautiful brunch. I love brunch. Anyway, what we learn is that Don is accidentally becoming an insider trader, using a tip from Sloan to buy Chipotle's stock right before it went up. Oops. White collar crime. Anyway, I hope they stay together, even though Sloan is the only mentally stable woman on this show, I still hope she can be mentally stable AND with Don.
Also important, Kat Dennings plays one of Reese's annoying step-siblings that are trying to buyout ACN's parent company. She's just so good. Literally, her and Jane Fonda trying to out bitch each other was one of the iciest scenes I've watched on television in a while.
This episode though, the title and the ending, revolved around Neal and his dip into the world of classified government documents and espionage. After hiring a feisty lawyer and sitting through hours of bickering between the lawyer and Will and Mac and pretty much everyone, Will hatches a plan for Neal to run away and the story to run on air. Neal gets away and is smashing his iPhone and lighting the dumpster on fire as the FBI shows up to ACN to go through every single hard drive.
As a journalist, this storyline has already become my favorite from the season. Equal parts exciting and relevant, it appeals to me as not just a viewer, but someone who is truly interested in the relationship between journalists, the government and sources that can cause damage to both parties.
However, as a woman, it's nice to see Maggie being treated like a real person finally. I'll be the first to say that Maggie is so annoying to watch, but after this episode she proves her credibility as a journalist and why she still works at ACN.
Still though, at the end of the day, it's Will that saves Neal, Will that makes the final call on the future of Neal's exclusive story and Will that knows the future.
(11/17/14 7:29pm)
Well there's snow on the ground. It's cold. I drove past a sign in rural Indiana in front of a church that said "Ebola Relief Concert." That's our theme for Culture Shock this year. Sorry for spoiling it. I don't have much to say, so here's some music for this very cold and snowy Monday. (IT'S NOVEMBER WHY IS IT SNOWING LITERALLY I'VE BEEN IN THIS STATE FOR THREE YEARS NOW AND I STILL DON'T GET IT #eastcoast5ever <3333)
A fitting song title cause I feel like Bloomington may be an iceberg right now. Real talk though there's nothing special about this song but it's good!!!!
It's been something like 5 years and I'm still unsure if there's a song that's better to listen to in the cold than "Blood Bank." Sure, most Bon Iver tracks scream "snow! winter! listen to me!" but there's just something about "Blood Bank" that I have always loved. This remix adds an extra layer of warmth and texture and instead of overpowering, the deep bass and echoing complements the track.
I love covers (but you've probably figured that out by now) and I also love Kanye (you've probably figured that out by now too) and this song combines both! What a time to be alive! But really, Glass Animals is a really great band, highly recommend that you check out their original music after you listen to this cover of the classic 808s track.
Woah a happy song? What is this madness? I like it though. Hopefully you will too.
Can you imagine an episode of The Office where Taylor Swift is in Scranton and Michael Scott is looking for her all day? I imagine it sort of like this but a little different. Same same but different.
I really can't stand the original version of this song but obviously Lorde can figure out a way for me to listen to it. She dances like she's possessed but who cares she's like the coolest #teen on earth.
~no music for your monday next week because I'll be home and I'll be busy eating good sushi and pizza and drinking dunkin iced coffee and big gulps from slev~

Apparently Drake's hit is a popular cover song now. Move over "Wonderwall" we've got a new song to drunkenly sing to at 3 a.m.

For the last season of The Newsroom, Aaron Sorkin's foray into the trials and tribulations facing a large media company in the 21st century, I'll take the opportunity to review the show that achieves the impossible: it makes journalism look sexy.
Back when season one premiered on HBO, I was still in high school, young, wide-eyed and deeply interested in journalism. Now I'm a junior in college, older, narrow-eyed (blame it on the lack of sleep) but still deeply interested in journalism. I guess that's why I still watch this show. Cause honestly, this show sort of stinks, there's a reason it was just barely renewed for a third and final season. Lead character and protagonist (?) Will McAvoy is the newsman that none of us admire to paraphrase the AV Club, McAvoy is the aging, white, male baby boomer that will mansplain that catcalling is somehow endearing and that his long and arrogant soliloquies speeches are filled with wisdom.
It's 2014.
Speaking of 2014, season 3 takes us back to 2013, more specifically spring of 2013, and even more specifically to the day of the Boston Marathon bombings. To most, that day marks a horrific act of domestic terrorism, but to most journalists (who I assume are the majority of the show's audience) the Boston bombings also signified the strengths and weaknesses of social media and citizen journalism. Sorkin takes note of this and the script reflects his opinion of the matter.
It's stupid and useless.
Will and Mac, journalism's power couple, the protectors of truth, are wary of reporting based of social media reports (reasonable considering last season's Genoa catastrophe) however, this comes to hurt them in the end as ACN falls from second to fourth place in cable news ranking as the episode comes to its end.
Meanwhile, Neal, quite possibly the only journalist at ACN that openly embraces 21st century technology, dips his toes into encryption and classified government secrets a la Glenn Greenwald. After receiving a tantalizing message via encrypted messaging, Neal is told to go to the bathroom of a restaurant where he will find a flash drive filled with government files.
True to the whistleblower's word (there's a Sorkin-esque dialogue with appropriate pronouns) Neal finds a flash drive with nearly 36,000 classified documents in a toilet's tank. How sanitary.
Neal goes on to tell Will and Will goes on to tell Neal that he's committing treason and espionage and seems to completely miss that point that Neal is in possession of a huge story about American propaganda creating an actual bloody conflict in Kundu (which obviously is in Africa, the last vestige of barbarianism in the world apparently). This is the storyline I'm most excited for and I'm really looked forward to see where Sorkin takes us with it.
Maggie is still Maggie, Jim seems to be falling for Maggie again and Sloan is still the show's best character.
I guess this can be considered the beginning of the end.

With a few new bruised, some more cracks in my phone and a random iphone in my apartment, gifted by an uber driver with a glove compartment filled with lost iphones, it's officially the end of tailgate season at IU. Hopefully all of my loyal readers survived because there really aren't a lot of you to start with. Anyways, hopefully this week's edition of Music For Your Monday will attract some new readers cause this music is awesome.
There are somethings that you literally just can't make up and this mashup of "Here Comes the Sun" and "Jumpin Like Jordan" can be classified as one of those things you just can't make up. It's really weird and really good and George Harrison may or may not be rolling over in his grave.
This song is very nice to listen to. Both male and female vocals are stunning and the complement each other really well.
Step one: get a nice pair of headphones. Step two: put them on. Step three: play this song. Step four: get blown away. Seriously though, The 1975 usually makes pretty sexy music but this remix is fire.
"Send Me Down" is my favorite Haim song of the week. They layered vocals add some texture to an otherwise simple track (lyrically, not instrumentally) and I love the drumming in the song. If someone wants to isolate the percussion for me, my email is jyarvin@wiux.org.
If nothing else, it's a reason to celebrate.
Yes I know I already used "IDFWY" in another Music For Your Monday, but there was no way I was gonna skip over this music video. With a song at this caliber, you can't just make any music video. It has to be the best video ever. And this is a pretty killer video. Why? Because Kanye is Sean's football coach. Also E-40 rapping in the press box in hilarious Also the unabashed product placement (see Red Bull and Beats and Addidas)

I know what you're thinking. It's already time for another Music For Your Monday? Where is time going? Why is it getting dark at 6 p.m.? Why is it cold? Why is it November? Why are people still wearing uggs in public? Here's some music to distract you from these never-ending questions.
This track is off on Calvin Harris' latest album, Motion. Although I'm not the biggest Harris fan, my sources tell me that this album isn't his best work. However, they also say that this song, featuring Haim, is easily the best on the album. Well obviously. Haim is awesome and I'm so happy that so many more people will be able to discover them after this song blows up, because well listen to it. It's gonna be big. Yay.
Sorry, 100% not sorry. 1989 is just another stupid pop album...or maybe not. Read what I have to say about it! #Shamelessselfpromotion
It's gonna be a cold and rainy week and there are few bands better than The National to listen to in the cold rain. (Besides Band of Horses, Bon Iver, Death Cab...) Anyway, this is my favorite song by them and I'll probably be listening to it a lot this week.
BBC 1 Radio Lounge is a magical laboratory where things that shouldn't happen, happen, and it's almost always a good thing. George Ezra covering "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" makes no sense, and it's not even THAT good but it's hilarious and Ezra has a nice voice. He's also very cute.
Can we pronounce it Yeezy season yet? Maybe. Kanye absolutely kills it on this track with his classic lyrics and he nails the delivery, all without the abrasiveness from Yeezus. Does that mean that can expect the new album to sound more like Graduation? Who knows. Actually Theophilius London knows considering he's heard the album. I'm so excited.
Sorry to end this week's edition on such a melancholy note, but as this week marks the start of S.A.D season (seasonal awareness disorder) I thought this would be a good song to commemorate it with. I'm pretty sure whoever made this mashup combined some mp3 files with a vial of tears, a few snowflakes, a broken heart and a drop of despair. It's a great song, I promise.
Don't forget to check in every Monday for a new edition of Music For Your Monday xoxoxoxo

Halloween and October are over and with that comes a strong, cold breeze that will torture us Hoosiers until mid-March. Fortunately, a ton of great music came out this past October, so let's revisit some highlights and try to forget the freezing temperatures, bare trees and lack of sunlight that's in our future.
Ben Howard-I Forgot Where We Were
Soulful crooner Ben Howard released his follow up to 2011's excellent My Kingdom on Oct. 20. I Forgot Where We Were features the English songwriter's lovelorn lyrics and token mellow sound, reminiscent to a sadder Jack Johnson. On stand out tracks like "Small Things" and "I Forgot Where We Were" Howard uses minimalist instrumentals to complement his voice, and he succeeds in making the perfect soundtrack for a cold winter day. In his usual style, the ten song album clocks in at 54 minutes as all the songs are at least three-and-a-half minutes long. Such long songs are nothing short of hard, keeping people's attention is pretty difficult, however Howard's melodic and soothing voice, often blending in and out with the dreamy, melancholic, even stormy, instrumentals take listeners on a sonically-pleasing journey.
Cold War Kids-Hold My Home
If the Cold War Kids are good at anything, it's that they're good at staying exactly the same. In their latest release, the California rockers maintain the same sound as they were in 2006's Robbers & Cowards. That's not to say that Hold My Home is a bad or boring album. Quite the contrary, as leader vocalist Nathan Willett continues to shine with his unique voice and the rest of the band is as talented as ever, balancing out Willett's sometimes brash voice with soaring guitars and a steady percussion. Though not as good as their most recent album Dear Miss Lonelyhearts, the band still shines in tracks like "Hotel Anywhere," "First" and my personal favorite, "Nights & Weekends." Another solid album by one of the more consistently good bands from the past decade.
Milky Chance-Sadneccessary
Despite their unappealing name, (maybe because I despise milk? I don't know it just sounds wrong), Milky Chance put out one of my favorite albums from this year. The German duo first made music headlines when their single "Stolen Dance" blew up on YouTube. Their unique take on an electro/indie/pop blend really shines on tracks like "Flashed Junk Mind" and "Down By The River." My favorite track off the record is easily "Running." The track combined elements of minimalism, with the sporadic bass line and the mumbling adds to a melancholy sound. However, the song starts to pick up midway through and has this sort of desperateness to it that makes it so different. Milky Chance is actually set for their first U.S. tour starting in early 2015, and I'm hoping to catch them in Indy in April.
