2019 Culture Shock Lineup Announced

The annual student ran music festival will be held on April 20 at Indiana University

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. Mar. 5, 2019. Culture Shock, WIUX’s annual free music festival is set to be held in Dunn Meadow on April 20. The lineup features strong artists from a range of genres including hip-hop, rap, electro-pop, punk rock and more. The festival will be also host a number of food vendors, student organizations and activities in addition to the musical performances.

The headliner this year, Tahj Malik Chandler, known by his stage name Saba, is an American rapper and record producer. The Chicago native’s career sparked at the young age of 7 when he began playing piano, which led to his experimentation of beat making software. Saba’s successes has ranged from his early performances at age 16 to collaborating with American rapper, singer, and songwriter Chance the Rapper both in 2013 and 2015.

In addition to the headliner, there will be a number of performers at this year’s Culture Shock. The electro-pop trio comprised of multi-instrumentalist twins Max and Spencer Ernst and lead vocalist Chelsea Lee from Washington, D.C., SHAED, will be taking the stage as well. The performance will continue with Lala Lala, Chicago based songwriter originally from London, who uses her musical career as an outlet to process her new experiences. Katherine Paul, also known as Black Belt Eagle Scout, is an indigenous feminist artist from northern Washington who will also be joining this year’s team of performers.

The lineup continues with Boa, a “3 piece groove psychedelic band” based out of Louisville, Ky., who blends elements of psychedelic, funk, and rock music in a unique, but quite impressive way. The Slaps, an indie rock band based out of Chicago whose vibe is described as “beach blues rock”, will also be in attendance. Adding onto these powerful musical experts is Chives, a young punk rock artist from the Indianapolis area, whose interest in creating music began in middle school and eventually led to local gigs and a relationship with Headdress Records. Diop & Willis, a collab set of 2 Indianapolis rappers, will be coming down to Bloomington for the festival as well. Formerly known as Katie Faith O’Neill, 20 year old Ktfaithful is a singer/songwriter from Indianapolis, IN and is currently a junior at Indiana University. Now exploring music production collaborations with producers, this indie pop artist gives us an electronic dance feel, transitioning from guitar and piano. With DJ set by Bloomington’s very own DJ MADDØG, Indiana University Music Production Club and IU group VD Collective.
