Covered in sweat from head to toe. That’s one of the first thoughts I had upon walking out of the Bird and into the cold last week after the Above & Beyond show. Of course that didn’t matter as I had just had one of those moments in life that simply cannot be expressed in a simple one word response. Or could I.

Amazing.

I felt amazing and all because I had the chance to see one of the best DJ/Producers groups in the world here in Bloomington. I didn’t have to drive miles to Indy or Chi-town. Nor did I have to fly half way across the country to go to a massive Electronic Dance Music (EDM) event such as Ultra Music Festival (in Miami) or Electric Daisy Carnival (Vegas Baby! Vegas!!!…p.s. I’m going this year.) All I had to do was walk a few blocks down to the Bluebird Nightclub. I don’t think many people understand how awesome it is to have some of the largest names in EDM come here to Bloomington.

I arrived early to the venue for some silly reason thinking I would be able to snag an interview with the group. What I learned very fast was unless you already had an interview planned your chances of landing one is very small. That didn’t stop me as for the remainder of the night even during A&B’s set I was trying to talk to promoters and doormen to get a chance at a quick interview. Alas I was forced to enjoy my night listening to some of the best Trance music I’ve ever heard. Having been to a few other EDM shows at the Bluebird recently this one felt more special. I feel this show has been the best one I’ve seen and I plan on see A&B again very soon.

Above & Beyond was simply amazing and for the few who attended the show at the Bluebird there was little doubt that everyone had an amazing time. A&B played a number of their hit tracks which included “A Thing Called Love” and “Sun & Moon” both off their latest album Group Therapy. I couldn’t tell, due to the music, but I know a few people in attendance knew every single word to A&B’s songs. The energy on the dance floor was what you should expect at a EDM event. People packed very tightly together dancing non-stop until the very last track.

I can remember the end of the show vividly. On the big video screen behind the DJ’s the last message read:

“Life is made of small moments like this.”

I’m not sure I can really explain the feelings I was having at that moment. I was sad that the show was over but so happy to have been there to see A&B. The statement is clear and to the point. Life really is made of small moments in time that you will remember forever. I guess A&B wanted to remind people that life is special and there are small moments that make life worth living.
