One of the fastest rising artists in recent years, along with a pair of talented acts,  will make their way to the Bishop this Wednesday,  April 6th, in what more than promises to be an evening condensed with breezy grooves and crystalline musical textures  with Toro Y Moi headlining the impressive three part bill with Braids and Adventure.

Adventure, a one man band and native of North Carolina, will set the air ablaze with his disco-meets-8-bit-beeps-and-boops electropop.  But his synthetic mixtures go far deeper than  the nostalgic video game sounds your Super Nintendo would make.  Accelerating the synthesized blips with melodic grooves and frenetic soundscapes, Adventure launches his electropop to incendiary heights, propelling the audience to  towering aural stratospheres that glitter and sparkle with each generated beat.

Following Adventure, the Montreal via Calgary quartet Braids will take the stage next.  Featuring sonic textures and ethereal vocals, Braids’ complexly interwoven electronic deam pop is blissfully layered and tastefully torn between gorgeously  saccharine and dissonantly straining, creating both a haunting charm and an eerily danceable quality to the sprawling cast melodies.

Toro Y Moi, fittingly, will draw the evening to an unforgettable close. Since exploding onto the music scene in 2009 by way of internet blogs and word of mouth, Columbia, SC native Chaz Bundick, operating under the title of Toro Y Moi, has released two full length albums that have caught the eye (or ear rather)  of critics and an influx of new fans alike .  Last year’s Causers of This, a mesh of summery atmospherics, soulful echos  severed into rhythmically stilted grooves, and lighter–than- air samples,  Toro Y Moi’s first LP,  was a virtual top 10 list staple for best album of the year.  A few months ago, Underneath the Pine, his second album in as many years, has been met with glowing reviews and acclaim as it features  the same perfectly executed blend of organic beats centrally rooted in hip-hop and breezy atmospheres that had put Buddick on the map in the first place.  Toro Y Moi, bringing that very exuberance that defines his work,  will ignite the Bishop with a salvo rubbery beats and a cascade of mellow grooves in what will prove to be one of the year’s best dance parties.

The Bishop is located at 123 S. Walnut Street.  Doors open at 9 pm and tickets are $8 in advance or $10 the day of the show. Ages +18.
