Caine’s Arcade: “The Fun Pass Is A Really Great Deal”
By: Sarah Silcox
Earlier this week, I was advised to watch a video called Caine’s Arcade. I was literally blown away after watching the short film for the first time. Caine’s Arcade is a ten minute documentary about a nine-year-old boy from Los Angeles who builds an arcade in his father’s auto parts shop entirely out of cardboard boxes. I don’t want to say much more about the video because I don’t want to ruin the surprise, but you need to watch it. Watching Caine’s Arcade will remind you of three things: (1) kids are so smart, (2) there are awesome people in the world, (3) social media can be a powerful medium if used for the right purposes. Because I was so inspired by this video, I decided to share some of my favorite short films that can all be found on the amazing video sharing website Vimeo.
Soon after meeting his first customer, Caine receives the best surprise of his life.
This video features the artwork of the world traveling artist JR. He essentially travels around the world pasting up giant photo portraits of people encouraging others to look past traditional stereotypes. Make sure you check out his website for the Inside Out Project here.
If you love traveling or if you are curious about different cultures, you will love the short videos of Mike Matas. Previously a designer for Apple, Matas has created a series of travel videos featuring absolutely beautiful shots from his adventures. Below is the Spain & Morocco clip, but be sure to also check out India and Japan.
Notte Sento is a beautifully photographed stop-motion video about a woman who misses her train to Milan and ends up spending a romantic meeting with a mysterious stranger.
Move is a creative depiction of the excitement of traveling. The video was made by three guys and their adventures through 11 different countries. So cool.
This next video is technically an advertisement for 7 Jeans, but I am literally obsessed with it. Directed by James Franco and filmed using a Super 8 camera, this video depicts the SoCal lifestyle of excitement, fun, and spontaneity. The beautifully shot clip stars Henry Hopper (son of film legend Dennis Hopper) and features the song “Time” by Selebrities.
The story of a man and his home.
