The Indie Pen Dance: Semi-Apathetic Discord

By Sarah V. Hetrick

Not much has struck me this week in the vein of “worth writing a post about”. We are in the grips of midterms, and I feel like my brain will be dysfunction junction for the rest of this week. But I’m willing to take a few observations that I’ve made this week and possibly mold them together into a partially coherent blog post.

I’d first like to make it a point to say that we need to be thinking about the tornado-ravaged areas of Southern Indiana and the Appalachian states. It was a most bizarre and spontaneous outbreak of severe weather that has caused so much distress and sadness. I will not use the phrase “keep them in our prayers” not only because I am a partial agnostic, but rather because I feel that raising awareness and literal efforts to assist more than just talking about it.

These past two weeks have been controversial in several ways. I hear that Rush Limbaugh said some pretty offensive things about women.  And I have to wonder why anyone cares what Rush Limbaugh has to say. He’s just a man. He has not contributed anything relevant or important to advancing society. He hasn’t contributed an invention, or a theory on how nature works, or even the idea about how to cure some of the most prevalent plagues within our society; He’s just a man who has said some words. We put far too much stock into words; especially the words of men with money and big voices. We put too much stock in to things that aren’t important. I never understood why we listen to people who say that they are “political experts/ pundits”. They’re just people. Words are overrated. Action is all that matters.

I hear Snooki is pregnant. Honestly, I don’t really care. I feel that apart from constant hangovers, fistfights, and disgust; pregnancy was easily in the cards for being a part of  “Jersey Shore”. Common sense.
I wonder what Rush Limbaugh would have to say about Snooki?
I honestly don’t care. I’m sure that if she progresses safely through her pregnancy, she’ll be able to manage and change her lifestyle. She has options- she doesn’t have to keep it. But then that opens much more controversial than I care to get at the moment.

That’s all I have. Not a lot has been happening that is noteworthy of my keystrokes. At least, nothing that can change the fact that this week is midterms and we’re all dying.

Have a fun break. Stay safe and stay smart.
